NASCAR Follows In F1’s Footsteps As It Gets Its Own Netflix Series

Posted on August 22, 2023 | by Dre Harrison We’ve got another one! With Netflix already celebrating massive success with Drive to Survive, it’s no surprise they’ve continued to expand more into current sports, and their latest pick-up is bound to be popular! NASCAR has come to an agreement with Netflix to produce a five-episode series based on the 2023 Cup Series playoffs. For those who don’t know, NASCAR is one of the few motorsport series to use a playoff format to crown a champion, and all 16 playoff participants will be featured across the series. Netflix have made it no secret they’re investing more and more into sports documentaries. Alongside the ever-popular Drive to Survive, they’ve picked up series in golf (Full Swing), tennis (Break Point), cycling (Tour De France: Unchained), and most recently, a series on the NFL (Quarterback, featuring reigning Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes!) And there’s some heavyweight clout behind NASCAR’s show too! In the announcement last night, NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. was named as Executive Producer. The 15-time “Most Popular Driver” award winner has since transitioned into a broadcaster within in the series, as well as IndyCar and his “Dirty Mo Media” podcast network. In other exciting news, the team behind ESPN’s “The Last Dance” will also be behind the show. The huge docuseries centred on Michael Jordan, his career in the NBA and his final season with the Chicago Bulls that aired during COVID times was a smash hit, and would go on to win an Emmy! Production on the NASCAR series has already begun with an expected release in early 2024. Personally, as a new NASCAR fan, I can’t wait to see how it goes! Are you excited for a NASCAR-DTS show? Let us know in the comments!
