Mercedes Reveal The Details Of Their £70million Factory Upgrade

Posted on August 18, 2023 | by Charley Williams Earlier on in the year, Mercedes announced they were having a MAJOR upgrade to their factory in Brackley. An incredible £70million will be invested into the team’s home, turning it into a little village of Formula 1 loveliness. They’ve now revealed exactly what those plans entail.  Many of the teams have decided to have a factory overhaul as of late, with McLaren’s windtunnel upgrade and Aston Martin building an entirely new facility. Mercedes’ recent plans are just the next phase of a large programme that’s been running for at least four years, but it’s said that the facilities will be “truly world-class” when finished. Mike Elliott, Chief Technical Officer at Mercedes, recently shared some insight into what the campus will be expanding on, he said: “Formula 1 has marched forward in time, it’s grown, those buildings have grown with us and adapted to what we’ve got and being able to build a specific marketing building, to be able to build a proper hub and wellbeing centre and gym I think itself is going to be big steps forward. “But in terms of this building where most of the engineers are sited, it’s going to be an opportunity to develop more breakout spaces and improve the ability to collaborate, have better quality meeting rooms than we’ve got at the moment, all things that might seem small, but if you think that your most important asset is your people, giving them the best places to work in, that’s what we really need to create.” Having a factory where staff feel comfortable is important, F1 is all about how you can learn faster than your competitors, and those ideas turn into designs and, eventually, improve the car. Rob Thomas, Mercedes’ Chief Operations Officer, said: “Building a facility where people are happy to come to work, they have got areas where they can think, areas where they can exercise, this generates new ideas, and ultimately these ideas turn into lap time.” We love the idea of them building a happy and healthy work environment! ????
