F1’s Idea For New ‘Grand Slam’ Award Hasn’t Gone Down Well With Fans

So, F1 is considering a ‘grand slam’ idea for Sprint races in 2024 , and the proposition hasn’t exactly gone down well with fans. Sprint weekends are still very much an evolving idea, and F1 believe that bringing in an award for both pole positions and both race wins would add excitement.  Motorsport.com reported that F1 is considering the idea as part of its ongoing commitment to keeping with the controversial sprint races that were added to F1 in 2021. As we’ve seen this year, the project is still very much evolving, with Sprint Shootout being added as part of a newly created Sprint Saturday. F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said they would like to take it a step further in 2024 and introduce a special ‘Grand Slam’ award that would be given to any driver who takes pole position and wins for both the sprint and main Grand Prix. This hasn’t really gone down well with fans, with many hailing it as the ‘Max Verstappen Award’, not original, but also not wrong ???? Over 50% of fans voted that the award was unnecessary, mostly because in the current era of F1 that we’re witnessing, Max would take home every single award. Many also claimed that it was just another ‘gimmick’ to try and make the sprints (that aren’t overly loved) work. Would the Grand Slam award be a good idea to spruce up Sprint weekends? Let us know in the comments!
