Carlos Sainz Will Be Hoping To Avoid This Unwanted Ferrari Record

We quite like a useless stat here at WTF1, especially those pesky unwanted records that every Formula 1 driver wants to avoid. The 2023 season is definitely not going the way Carlos Sainz would’ve liked, with a best finish of fourth in the first 12 races. And if he wants to avoid this unwanted Ferrari record, he’ll have to return from his summer break fighting for a podium. Ferrari’s season has been quite the rollercoaster. Whilst at some tracks, it’s looked quick, it’s not lived up to expectations following a relatively successful 2022 season, especially with Aston Martin leap-frogging everyone in terms of winter development. With Red Bull comfortably taking the top spot of the podium each week, the fight is on between Mercedes, Aston Martin, Ferrari and even McLaren for those precious best of the rest places, and Charles Leclerc has managed three podiums and one pole position (not counting Spa) from just pure pace. But despite Carlos leading his teammate in the standings up until Spa, Leclerc has had the better of Ferrari’s random fortune throughout the first 12 races and is now leading by seven points. It all leaves Carlos in danger of following in the footsteps of Kimi Raikkonen and adopting his unwanted 2014 record. Raikkonen is one of only two full-time Ferrari drivers to fail to score a podium with the team in a season in the 21st century, with a best finish of P4 in 2014. Felipe Massa was the other in 2011. Will Carlos Sainz end up on the podium this season? Let us know in the comments!
