Looks Like A Contract Extension For Alonso Is Very Much On The Cards

Posted on November 25, 2023 | by Charley Williams Often, things in Formula 1 stay very hush-hush right up until any announcements are made. But we actually really respect Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack’s straightforward answer on whether he’d like to extend Fernando Alonso’s contract. We need more people like this in the world.  Fernando has had a stellar year in F1. Moving to Aston Martin from Alpine was a move that no one really understood at the time, but he set out to prove everyone wrong and that he did. Behind the Red Bull pair, he’s the driver with the next-most podiums this season (eight, just one behind Sergio Perez!) – his most in a season since his 2013 effort with Ferrari. Despite being, umm… one of the oldest drivers on the grid, he doesn’t show any signs of stopping anytime soon, and it seems Mike Krack is more than happy to keep him on at Aston Martin for years to come. Alonso’s current contract is due to run out at the end of 2024, but in the Abu Dhabi press conference, Krack had nothing but positive things to say about Fernando’s performance this season: “I think as a team we were blown away from the first day until today. “To be honest with you, I always thought it was a bit the honeymoon months in the beginning, but I’m quite happy that we have managed to extend the honeymoon a bit longer.” When asked if Aston Martin would look to extend Alonso’s deal, he responded with a smile: “I think I don’t have to answer that question. “Absolutely.” Would you like to see Fernando Alonso extend his contract at Aston Martin?
