Lewis Hamilton Holding Talks With Red Bull Isn’t As Spicy As It Sounds

Posted on November 23, 2023 | by Charley Williams SERIOUSLY? It’s the final race of the season! It’s been a long year, and we hoped for a nice relaxing weekend. But what’s one more silly season statement from Christian Horner thrown into the mix, huh? If you haven’t seen the meddling revelation from Horner, he revealed in an interview with the Daily Mail that talks were held earlier this year with none other than seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. Lewis and Max Verstappen as team-mates??! ???? Horner said: “We have had several conversations over the years about Lewis joining. They have reached out a few times. Most recently, earlier in the year, there was an inquiry about whether there would be any interest. “He met with John Elkann (Ferrari Chairman), too. I think there were serious talks. It was around Monaco, there were definitely conversations, perhaps with [Fred] Vasseur, too. But certainly with Elkann. “But I can’t see Max and Lewis working out together. The dynamic wouldn’t be right. We are 100 per cent happy with what we have.” Quite a wild statement – but it’s not as juicy as you may think it is and is actually quite normal! It’s no secret that the 2022 Mercedes was not giving anything – a far cry from the champion car Lewis had previously. The whole team couldn’t wait to get rid of it, and after talks with the engineers and technicians, Lewis was frustrated that he turned up to Bahrain in 2023 with pretty much the same car. And a top driver’s management team’s job is finding them the best opportunities, so it’s no surprise Lewis’s people consulted with several top teams. It would actually be more shocking had they not approached anyone. Whilst the driver market is fairly solid in terms of teams sticking with what they have as of recently, you just never know. Surprises do happen – just like no one really expected Daniel Ricciardo to jump from Red Bull to Renault for the 2019 season, for example. It’s not just Lewis, the same rings for all drivers of top teams – Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, and perhaps even Max Verstappen before he was handed a rocketship of a car. And, if nothing else, Hamilton’s contract negotiations with Mercedes were going on for quite a while, so dipping into what other teams may have to offer is great leverage for a solid contract, which he eventually signed. Could you imagine Hamilton at Red Bull? Let us know in the comments!
