Abu Dhabi Has Copied One Of The Best Bits Of Monza

Look, it’s the end of the season. We’re going to be without F1 for a while, it’s time for us to get excited about the little things in life, right? And if that includes a brand new podium in Abu Dhabi, we’re up for it!  We can’t lie; we usually wouldn’t be so hyped about a podium, but this one shares characteristics with another famous podium on the calendar… MONZA. Aside from the unbeatable atmosphere that the Italian GP brings, the iconic Monza podium is a place where history is made. Witnessing drivers lifting their trophies and spraying champagne in front of the incredibly passionate Tifosi is just beautiful. Goosebumps. So, of course, you’d want to replicate that experience – which is exactly what Abu Dhabi has done! The Yas Marina Circuit joined the F1 calendar in 2009 and has hosted the final round of the season each year since 2014. In 2021, they signed a new 10-year F1 contract to remain as the season finale until 2030, and now they’ve got a brand new Monza-esque podium for those ‘last race of the season’ celebrations. It features a bridge that drivers will walk over from the pit building after they have burnt rubber completed their donuts, straight over the pit lane and arrive ready to overlook the start/finish straight as they lift up their podium trophies for the very last time that season. Whilst we’re not convinced the atmosphere will quite match Monza’s, we’re looking forward to seeing how it looks after Sunday’s Abu Dhabi GP!
