Hamilton Is Literally ‘Counting Down The Days’ Until His 2023 Mercedes Is Gone

Posted on November 4, 2023 | by Dre Harrison We’ve all been there when you can’t wait to move on from a bad experience, or a rough time. And for Lewis Hamilton, he reflected on what he clearly felt was a step back during Formula 1’s 2023 Brazilian Grand Prix Sprint Race. ???? Hamilton started strongly, passing Sergio Perez for fourth, but eventually fell to seventh after struggling to handle his degrading tyres. He only just managed to hold off Carlos Sainz and Daniel Ricciardo as they came to the chequered flag. In a post-race media scrum that included The Race, Lewis went into detail about the step backwards from Mexico, and why he can’t stand his W14. “It was a very tough race.” said Lewis. “I think we got a good start then balance…tried to get the right balance of the wing. Just a lot of understeer, snap oversteer and tyres just dropped off. In mid-sector, huge understeer. [We] probably got set-up wrong but it is what it is.” Hamilton went into further detail as to why he felt his W14 struggled. “I think we have one of the draggiest cars,” said Lewis. “The floor is not as strong as the Red Bull for example, so we have to have a really big rear wing. Then just slow on straight because we can’t use anything smaller.” When asked about the difference in form compared to his second place in Mexico, Lewis showed confusion at the downturn. “I mean the last couple of races we’ve been excited that we’ve been progressing, it’s been really positive to see and we come to another track and then you have the worst deg that you’ve had for ages. So it’s like you don’t know what to expect but only a couple more races with this car then it’s gone so I’ll be happy.” And if you want a sneak peek at Lewis’ season review? “This year you’re just counting down the days.” Not the words of someone who’s having the best of times. Where do you think Lewis finishes in tomorrow’s race?
