Haas Lodges Protest Over Results Of F1 Race From Two Weeks Ago

Posted on November 4, 2023 | by Dre Harrison Yes, we’re still writing about the United States Grand Prix, despite the fact it was almost a fortnight ago. Why? Because Haas has lodged a format protest via the “Right to Review” system.  For those who don’t know, you are allowed to submit a Right to Review within 14 days of the final classification of the race. And Haas thinks it may have an argument to have the result of the US Grand Prix changed.  As we reported at the time, Turn 6 during the race had an obscured view of the entire corner so the FIA didn’t want to punish potential track limits breaches without “clear evidence”. Alex Albon was investigated for a potential breach but was cleared as the FIA said it “did not have the evidence at hand” to provide a judgement. Onboard footage during the race showed Sergio Perez on the side of the corner, as well as Lando Norris admitting he did too, knowing he could get away with it.  Because Haas thinks potential penalties weren’t applied at that corner, they can protest the result. But they need to provide a convincing argument, as the “Right to Review” states that the protestor has to submit significant new evidence to the FIA in order to see if there’s a case to answer.  We’ve seen earlier this season when Ferrari tried to appeal Carlos Sainz’s time penalty during the final restart of the Australian Grand Prix. A protest that was ultimately unsuccessful.  And there are potentially some big points swings at state here. AMuS reported that Haas has submitted what they think the finishing order should be, and with their interpretation of penalties applied, Haas has Nico Hulkenberg seventh instead of his actual result of 11th. That could mean six more points for them, and one less point for Williams if Albon was moved outside the Top 10.  There’s no date set by the FIA to ahem… review the review, but keep your eyes peeled for more on the story as it develops! Do you think Haas has a case?
