Zak Brown Couldn’t Resist Texting Oscar Piastri A Cheeky Alpine Jibe

Alpine and McLaren’s relationship is a strange one, particularly after the events that all followed Oscar Piastri’s iconic tweet in the summer of 2022.  Now, F1 is a serious business, and it’s essential to leave any grudges at the paddock gates – but when you’re texting one of your drivers, it’s completely okay to be a little sassy, isn’t that right, Zak Brown? During a podcast with The Fast And The Curious, Oscar Piastri was asked what the last message he received from his McLaren boss was. He replied: “The last text Zak sent me was actually a very good one. “Yeah, he highlighted that I have the possibility of outscoring a certain team, and he wants me to do it by the end of the year.” ???? Christian Hewgill clarified which team Oscar was referring to and said: “That you personally could outscore a whole team? Oscar, surely you can neither confirm nor deny that he’s talking about Alpine?” Oscar replied: “I can neither confirm nor deny… but yes.” ???? Piastri currently sits on 87 points, 14 points behind Alpine with three rounds of the season remaining. The reason this is so funny is that in the summer of 2022, Sebastian Vettel broke the F1 world by announcing his retirement at the end of the season. This triggered Fernando Alonso to admit he was leaving Alpine and taking his spot at Aston Martin. Alpine responded by announcing Oscar Piastri as their driver for 2023… except he wasn’t – leading to this tweet. It was then revealed he’d signed for McLaren, and Alpine wasn’t impressed, insisting that he’d signed another contract whilst under contract. The squabble went to the Contract Recognition Board (CRB), which ruled in McLaren’s favour. Despite that, there were still some pretty not-so-nice things said about the whole situation, particularly from Alpine.
