FIA Makes Changes As Footage Emerges Of F1 Drivers ‘Getting Away’ With Track Limits Abuse

Posted on October 28, 2023 | by Charley Williams Honestly, sometimes we think the FIA should just hire F1 fans from X to become stewards for Formula 1 because you guys manage to find everything! It’s very impressive, we must admit ????️ Over the days that followed the United States GP, fans hunted down onboard footage of Sergio Perez massively abusing track limits at turn 6 by cutting the kerb on the right-hand side and, ultimately, getting away with it. Alex Albon was also investigated for track limits, but the FIA stewards ruled they did not have “the evidence at hand” to prove the infringements accurately. The Race has reported that they believe this is down to the FIA not having a clear view of the entire corner, the camera pointing towards turn 6 means they only have a clear view of the exit. But what about the onboard footage? All those screengrabs of Perez? Fortunately for Checo and Alex, onboard footage doesn’t show the rear wheels, and the FIA insists on having clear evidence before dishing out penalties for track limits. Even Lando Norris admitted to playing the game: “At turn 6, I did it as well, to be honest. I knew it was a corner they couldn’t penalise me because they set the precedent in previous tracks of ‘if you can’t visually see it, you’re going to get away with it.’ “You have to know the grey areas and the thing you can get away with, and that was one of them. So to everyone that did do it, fair play.” Honesty is the best policy, huh Lando? ???? But now, the FIA has informed the media that they will take action to ensure this does not happen again next year, insisting that “the FIA will update its monitoring infrastructure to provide enhanced coverage to ensure that any potential breaches can reliably be identified during the race in future.” So, let’s add COTA to the list of track limit s**tshows for 2024! ????
