Max Verstappen Urges F1 Fans To Respect Every Driver After Being Booed

Many fans have since clarified that the boos weren’t directed at him in particular, but Max is still keen on promoting respect for all drivers, no matter your favourite.  As he lifted up the winning trophy at Sunday’s US GP, you could hear the faint boos from spectators in Austin. Chants were also heard – particularly, chants for his Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez. There had been reports that Red Bull had stepped up Verstappen’s security whilst in Mexico, but he insists that the reception he’s received so far “was very nice” and always has “been amazing”. Mexico GP organisers recently launched a new campaign tackling the disrespect within the F1 community. The “Racepect” initiative is visibly clear as you make your way into the circuit, with billboards and posters put up everywhere to raise awareness. Max Verstappen was asked about the campaign in Mexico on Thursday following the recent ‘booing’ incident he endured in Austin. He told Sky Sports F1: “It’s not something only about here, I think it’s in general, in the sport right now, you know, we gained a lot of new fans over the last few years, and they might maybe respond or react a little bit different to what we had before. “Of course, I think it’s always good to support your favourite driver but also have respect for others, in particular places, while being on the podium while the national anthem is being sung or played, I think it’s always quite disrespectful when you start chanting through these kind of moments. “That’s why I think it’s good that they are raising awareness because it’s not only our sport, it’s a lot of different sports where people are trying to raise this kind of awareness.” We agree – respect for all drivers is definitely necessary!
