F1 Fans Go Wild After Oscar Piastri Claims Shock Qatar Sprint Pole

YES! Huge congratulations to Oscar Piastri, who takes pole position for the Qatar Sprint later today. Yesterday, when he was told his lap had been deleted mid-interview following the main qualifying session, he said he’d “try again tomorrow.” Man he took that seriously! ???? Yesterday’s qualifying session provided us with the ultimate F1 Struggle, as track limit violations took a while to be enforced by the stewards, everyone, drivers and pundits included, was unaware that Lando Norris wasn’t actually in the top three. Instead, George Russell was set to start alongside Max Verstappen for Sunday’s Qatar GP, and Oscar Piastri was promoted to P3. Well, that was until mid-interview, Naomi Schiff told him his lap had also been deleted, and he would start in P6. Oscar said that was “wonderful” and told everyone he would try again on Saturday for Sprint qualifying. And boy, did he! His first time in Qatar, on this track, as an F1 rookie, with only one practice session (plus a little 10-minute familiarisation session), and he goes and sticks it on pole position. What a talent. We’re ridiculously impressed, and if there’s one thing we can see on social media is how popular Oscar is becoming with everyone! Here are some of our favourite reactions to his surprise sprint pole. Of course, we had to include the man himself first! ???? and possibly the best reaction of them all is – once again – Oscar Piastri’s mum, Nicole. We think it may be worth the cancellation! ???? Could Oscar clinch his first sprint race win?
