Stroll Criticised For ‘Completely Inappropriate’ Behaviour After Qatar Q1 Exit

Posted on October 7, 2023 | by Charley Williams Oh dear. Is this like a Beetlejuice situation, where if you say “Q1 exit” three times, Lance Stroll appears and gives you a six-word interview? We can’t say he’s had the best F1 season, but Friday’s qualifying session was clearly a final straw for the Aston Martin driver.  In Friday’s Qatar GP qualifying session, Lance Stroll suffered his fourth Q1 exit in a row. But, it was what followed which has become a huge talking point. When Lance returned to the Aston Martin garage, he was approached by his performance coach, Henry Howe, who gestured towards the front of the garage, supposedly telling Stroll that he still needed to go and get weighed. Stroll had other ideas and rushed to escape at the back, and that’s when footage seemed to show him shoving Howe. Not long after, he appeared at the media pen for a very short (but not sweet) interview, describing his performance as “s**t.” Sky Sports F1 pundit Naomi Schiff said that no matter how disappointing an outing in your car goes, that kind of behaviour towards those who help you is unacceptable. “It’s totally inappropriate. You cannot behave in that way. “No matter how disappointing your day has been, those are the people that work to get you on track, to make it happen for you, you can’t be treating your team like that. “It’s one thing to have a bad day, come out of the car and apologise. But to come out and act that way is just not good enough. “He’s clearly distressed. We have to empathise because he’s a human being, he’s got his emotions. He’s going through something, but that doesn’t make it OK. You have to act better.”
