Lawson Learned He Was Racing In Qatar From A Very Surprising Source

Posted on October 5, 2023 | by Charley Williams Earlier this week, we learned that Daniel Ricciardo’s possible return date was pushed back to, at the earliest, the US Grand Prix in Austin. So, that means that Liam Lawson will step up once again at the Qatar GP as Ricciardo’s replacement in the AlphaTauri.  Now, we definitely don’t know the ins and outs of an F1 team. But we had imagined that Liam learned he was driving this weekend in a sophisticated, professional meeting. Maybe with Franz Tost in an offi- Oh. Nevermind. During the Qatar GP press conference, Liam was asked when he found out he’d have another shot at impressing everybody (except for the right people, it seems) in the AlphaTauri. He said: “On Monday. So I was sitting at lunch, and I had a random number call me, and it was a FaceTime. So I was really confused because people don’t just FaceTime randomly. “So I answered it, and it was just Daniel’s face, and he basically said he thought he’d let me have another weekend. Obviously good to be back and good to be in the car this weekend, a very different circuit, but im excited.” ???? How generous of Daniel to let Liam have another go. Sharing is caring, guys. Ricciardo has been out of the cockpit of his car since the Dutch GP, where he crashed into the barriers during FP2 and broke his hand. Lawson was handed the reins, and despite being announced as only a reserve driver with AlphaTauri again next year, he will walk away from this experience knowing he scored his first F1 points and the first of that particular chassis in 2023. It was also the team’s best result since the 2022 Italian GP. Let that sink in. We’re happy to see Liam Lawson back this weekend! Are you?
