Grosjean Is Taking Legal Action Against Andretti After Losing IndyCar Drive

Posted on October 5, 2023 | by Charley Williams You may have heard about Andretti a little too much over this past week, particularly following their approval from the FIA to join the F1 grid. But this time, their name is in the news for a different reason, and not a happy one.  Romain Grosjean is taking legal action against them. And yes, that is the second legal story to come out of this 2023 IndyCar season. It’s all a bit… strange. It’s been known that Grosjean was likely to lose his IndyCar drive at Andretti Autosport for 2024 for a while now, except neither Romain nor Andretti had commented on the fact until now. Andretti are looking set to downsize their Indy team from four cars to three next season, but even if they don’t, it seems Grosjean is no longer part of their plans. But Grosjean is not too happy about the way things have played out. In a statement released yesterday evening, he is kicking off arbitration proceedings to dispute the decision over his future at Andretti. Grosjean had a strong start to his 2023 season after a somewhat difficult one in 2022. With two podiums in four races and a win dangled in front of him, he told The Race he was keen to continue his partnership with Andretti beyond 2023, as many expected him to do so. This is the second time this IndyCar season that legal action has been pursued. Champion Alex Palou is being taken to court by Arrow McLaren because they insist he signed a contract with the team for 2024 before deciding to stay at Ganassi instead. Zak Brown then sent out a letter to his employees saying Palou had no intention of honouring his contract and filed a lawsuit against him, especially as McLaren had already paid Palou a portion of his 2024 earnings. Another day, another IndyCar mess!
