Verstappen Insists Claims That Red Bull’s Car Is Built Around Him Are ‘Bulls**t’

Posted on August 31, 2023 | by Charley Williams Last week out in Zandvoort, Toto Wolff described the gap between Red Bull teammates Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez as “odd” and “bizarre.” We can’t lie, we know Verstappen is an insane talent, but some weeks we can’t grasp our heads around it either.  It’s been talked about – not only this year but Verstappen’s entire time at Red Bull – that the car is quite obviously built around him, and that’s how he’s so successful, especially when you see the difference in timings between himself and Checo. In the same car, there have been many times this season when Max has crossed the finished line double-digit seconds ahead of Sergio – and he is more than expected to take home his 10th consecutive win this weekend ???? Wolff discussed this too, stating: “We’ve seen Max has destroyed every single teammate that was with him, whether it’s his ability to create a car around himself that is just very tricky to control – but fast if you can [control it] and that makes those gaps.” But Verstappen has called “bulls**t” on such suggestions. He told the media, including The Race: “It’s not like that. I just drive the car the fastest way possible. I’m not there to tell the guys to give me more front end because that’s how I like it. “I just say ‘design me the fastest car, and I’ll drive around that’. Because every single year, it’s just different, every car drives a little bit different. People will say ‘what is your driving style?’ My driving style is not something particular. “I adapt to what I need for the car to go quickly. I am not out there to try and prove anything. I’m just there to do the best I can with the material I have. “Probably also people don’t know what’s going on within the team and how difficult it is, even when you have a very good car, to deliver what we are doing to win every race so far. “Some people also can’t appreciate when somebody is constantly doing a good job – and I’m not talking about myself only, just the whole team operation. But I’m just there to do my job. I’m not there for people to recognise what I’m doing.” ???? Toto isn’t the only one to come out with this suggestion, with Perez hinting that he feels that the characteristics of the car have altered and gradually moved away from what he prefers. What do you make of the theory dismissed by Verstappen? Let us know in the comments!
