Nice weather, mountains, and ceveci: Matías Zagazeta on his Hometown

Matías Zagazeta made history this year when he finished third at the Silverstone Sprint Race, becoming the first Peruvian driver to stand on a Formula 3 podium.So, recently we had a quick conversation with him to talk about the place he calls home and he spoke of growing up in Lima, a few of the attractions it has on offer and much more.Tim Tramnitz on his 2024 season: Learning quickly in F3“So, I grew up in Lima, Peru, it's right next to Brazil in South America. We speak Spanish mainly, it's our first language, and it's the language I know the most.“Peru is a very nice country. There is a lot of nature, and it has a lot of its own history as well, so it's a very unique country. I think there is a lot of stuff in the country to do, it has some really good gastronomy, and there are some very nice and different geographic stuff as well in Peru. Zagazeta is from the capital city in Peru, Lima“You have the beach, you have the mountains, which they call the Cordillera de los Andes, then you have the jungle as well so it’s very different in different areas and it's such a beautiful country.“It's helped by the weather as it's not very cold. In the winter for example, the coldest it can get is 10 or 11 degrees but, in the summer, it gets to like 30 or 32 degrees, maybe the hottest 35. It can get warm, but it’s also not too cold as well in the winter, so it's perfect, but it's very humid.“I think someone visiting for the first time should go to Machu Picchu, it's a very historic Peruvian site in Cusco, it's one of the seven wonders of the world, it's honestly beautiful. Zagazeta would tell people visiting Peru for the first time to visit Machu Picchu“You go to Cusco first and then you take a train, it's like a two-hour journey, and it's such beautiful views, it's a very nice place.READ MORE: Câmara says he is gaining ‘confidence’ with each lap after strong opening day in Barcelona “For food, there are a lot of options in Peru. You can eat well in many places but a dish that people have to try is Ceviche, it's really good, so I will always recommend that people try it when they go.“There is also a very good karting place, it's call La Chutana, it's next to pretty much the only Autodrome in Lima, it’s the only karting track we have in Peru, so it's a place I go to train sometimes and stay fit during the off-season.”
