Three crowns and a Prancing Horse: Dino Beganovic on his 2024 helmet design

There is no missing Dino Beganovic when he’s at the wheel of his PREMA Racing #1 car in 2024, with the Swede standing out plenty with his unique helmet design. The Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy talent talks us through the design process, what each part means to him and what his favourite part of the 2024 helmet is.“My first helmet design was quite – there’s a few similarities to this one, the blue for example has always been on there, but the red and yellow came a bit later. The design has evolved all the time though. The blue is my favourite colour ever since I was very small, and the details with the pattern on the side has been there since karting.“The idea for this design for this helmet came from the older designs being quite similar. The blue is my favourite colour, that along with the yellow represents Sweden and the red is Ferrari obviously. Since I joined the Academy, there’s been a bit of red on my helmet whereas before it was just blue and yellow, black and white as well for the detail, but the blue and yellow was always the main colours. But the red is a nice and cool touch.Beganovic's design blends the Swedish colours with the unmistakable red of Ferrari“The yellow was pretty bright from the beginning, then I had one year where it wasn’t but I didn’t feel that it was really me, and I’ve always liked the fluoro yellow, always liked the bright colours just so my mum can notice me while I’m in the car. But I’ve always liked the brighter colours.“To be honest, the exposed carbon is just because it looks cool. It’s just for the looks, nothing in particular other than it looks pretty good.READ MORE: Road to 100: Piastri wins a nail-biter as PREMA make it two in a row“The pattern hasn’t been the exact same, but I’ve had it featuring in the design since 2020. There isn’t much of a meaning to it, I just thought it looked cool from the beginning and I’ve kept it since. It feels like me and I don’t want to change it too much, something that’s worked so far.“The Swedish ice hockey team have always worn the three crowns on the front of their shirts, which is a symbol for Sweden. I don’t know why it’s three crowns, but I know it’s a symbol for Sweden and that it’s always been that way. I’ve played ice hockey since I was little and liked the three crowns on the shirts. I used to have it on the back but in the Formula cars, you can’t see it, so I moved it to the front, so that’s the mark for Sweden alongside the colours without having the flag. The Swede says the Ferrari emblem front and centre is his favourite part of the design“CF Design designed this one. I’ve been working with them since 2022, before it was Bell painting it themselves from 2020 on. But then they said that this guy was good at doing it, so I began working with them very closely, and the partnership is working very well and I’m happy to be working with them. I joined Bell in early 2020, and my first helmet was actually a Bell too.“My favourite part – I changed the front quite a lot for this year, so I like the crowns a lot, but the Ferrari logo is one of my favourite parts. I’m so proud to have it there on the front of the helmet, so I’d say that is my favourite part.”A gradual evolution since stepping up to single seaters has lead to his current lid says the Swede
