León penalised, Tramnitz penalty overturned after Imola Sprint Race

Following the conclusion of the FIA Formula 3 Imola Sprint Race, Van Amersfoort Racing’s Noel León has been assigned a post-race time penalty, while MP Motorsport’s Tim Tramnitz has had his time penalty overturned.Firstly, during a Safety Car restart, León was judged to have weaved between Turns 17 and 18. During the Drivers Meeting with the Race Director, an instruction was given that drivers were not permitted to weave from the entrance of Turn 17 at a Safety Car restart. After hearing from both the driver and team representative as well as examining video evidence, the Stewards ruled that León was weaving after Turn 17, gaining a sporting advantage in the process by virtue of warming his tyres.As a result, a five-second time penalty has been applied to the Van Amersfoort Driver.Secondly, Tim Tramnitz’s time penalty for a Safety Car infringement has been removed.The MP Motorsport driver was initially awarded a five-second time penalty immediately after the chequered flag for an apparent breach of Article 40.7 of the 2024 FIA Formula 3 Sporting Regulations.However, after examining available timing data evidence along with the race control messaging system, the Stewards determined that the application of the time penalty was incorrect due to the timing matrix not reflecting changes made to the Regulations at the start of the 2024 season.As a result of both the application of León’s time penalty and the rescinding of Tramnitz’s, the MP Motorsport driver moves up to second position, while the Van Amersfoot Racing driver is demoted to third.
